Gypsy Theatre's mandate is to maintain and operate a permanent theatre company that promotes interest and skill in the arts through the presentation of plays and other types of performances, through the undertaking of educational projects, and by encouraging writing for the Canadian theatre. Since its inception in 1989 in the Town of Fort Erie, Gypsy Theatre has worked diligently to establish a living Canadian theatre and continues to make significant contributions to the creative and cultural fabric of the Niagara Region.

Gypsy Theatre has established a number of goals that allows the theatre to achieve its mandate:

1. To create a summer series of professionally produced plays that is entertaining, exciting and expresses a creative energy from which both audiences and artists can find a common link and an overall sense of fulfillment.

2. To create a series of activities and programs that provide for both the children and adults of this community an environment of learning and creativity through which they are given opportunities to experience the thrill and excitement of live theatre.

3. To promote the development of original Canadian theatrical works and adaptations and to give opportunities for these works to be work shopped or presented as part of the Gypsy Theatre Academy series of programs or the professional summer series of plays.
