2007 Artistic Director's Message
Welcome to our 19th season of Professional and Academy theatre presentations at Gypsy Theatre. The Niagara Region can boast some of the most spectacular scenic views that nature has created, including the majestic and powerful Niagara Falls, and some of the world's most delicious beers and wines. As well, Niagara can be proud to be the home for some very powerful and entertaining theatre created by world-class professional artists. Gypsy Theatre has been creating just such theatre for 18 years and this year will be no exception.

To begin our season we are taking on the challenge of Andrew Lloyd Webber's ground-breaking musical event CATS!  After last season's sensational production of Peter Pan we knew that we had to come up with a play that was as strong and full of "life and energy" as J.M. Barrie's classic stroy; a play that has a strong ensemble of characters for our wonderfully talented group of young actors to portray. This production of CATS! will have it all! Character! Dance! Music! Art! Theatre at its best!

This is the most ambitious production that we have ever undertaken. It's going to take all our resources and creativity to bring this timeless story to the stage but it'll be well worth it when the magic of CATS! bursts onto the Gypsy Theatre stage. CATS! will be performing from April 24th  to May 11th. All tickets are only $25.00 each! Be sure to book your tickets early for this magnificent musical event as we expect it to sell out quickly.

This season we have two wonderful events scheduled for a very different kind of diversion. On July 22nd the Niagara Regional Police Chorus will bring their fabulous selection of songs to Gypsy for a special 2pm show. This is the same chorus that has been entertaining audiences across Ontario gaining a well-deserved reputation as one of Canada's best singing groups. All tickets are priced right at only $20.00 each! Tea and sandwiches included with your ticket price.

We are very pleased to be able to present the romantic comedy "Midnight Madness" by Dave Carley for two special performances on August 8 & 9 before it heads up to Kincardine for a 3 week run at the Bluewater Summer Festival. This is a fantastic play by one of Canada's top playwrights and was a tremendous success for us here in our 2002 season. Check out our season listings on this website for a short writeup of what the play is about and then book your tickets because with only 2 performances we expect tickets to sell quickly, especially when word gets out that it will be Bernadette and I playing opposite each other in this delightful two-hander.

December will see a return of our brilliant blacklight Christmas show titled: Christmas Wishes. Performing Sundays: December 7th to 28th. This production will see the introduction of new and exciting songs and visuals. Our Christmas blacklight production has become a seasonal tradition for many families and we're very pleased that our audiences are asking for an annual run of this truly spectacular art form. If you've never experienced blacklight be sure to come check it out this Christmas.

Join us on Friday January 16th (Yes, that's another new date for the "Fling") for a special get-together we are calling a Coronation Street "Fling" . If you are a fan of that long-running television series then Gypsy Theatre will be the place for you. There will be food, fun, drinks and trivia. Enjoy a pint as you tuck in to a bowl of Betty's famous "hot pot". If you've never seen the show, don't worry, you'll still have a fabulous time - and maybe even learn what it is that makes this show so popular.

If you're interested in exceptional theatre training for children and youths then give the Gypsy Theatre box office a call and we'll gladly tell you what we have to offer throughout the season with our theatre camps, classes and workshops. Summer Theatre Camps will be presented July 7th to 11th and 14th to 18th.

If you or your organization are loooking for an interesting and diverse location for your next function, event or performance then look no further than Gypsy Theatre! We have a fabulous facility with flexible seating in either cabaret (up to 200 seats) or standard theatre seating (up to 250 seats) - with flexible rental rates as well. Give us a call for a personal tour.
We look forward to seeing you at one or more of our performances this season. Cheers!
